Why does the AQI number jump around or look stuck?

Modified on Wed, 4 Nov at 11:47 AM

What is the number on the display?

It's the Air Quality Index (AQI), the scale developed by the US EPA. Your Airdog calculates it from a built-in infrared sensor that counts particles in the air. It's a helpful reference, and it naturally moves with airflow, where the unit sits, and what's happening in the room (cooking, cleaning, opening a door).

The number jumps around a lot or seems stuck

Usually a bit of dust has settled on the sensor. Two quick steps:

  1. Clean the AQI sensor with a dry cloth or a cotton swab with a little alcohol. X3 video: https://youtu.be/2ytdrJ0Ncdw?t=84. X5 video: https://youtu.be/1k6Wep-s2pc?t=82. For the X8, check that the AQI sensor box isn't cracked and is pushed all the way into its slot.
  2. Reset the unit so it recalibrates. Press and hold the power button until you hear 2 beeps. Let go on the second beep, then give the unit 3 to 5 minutes to recalibrate. X8 reset video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1G1R_vNX8EMv0XYJXKdbJ4c1D4d-IwDwG/view?usp=sharing

It shows -C- or a 9XX code instead of a number

-C- means it's time to clean. A 9XX code is an electronics signal: unplug the unit, do a full cleaning, and restart. See https://airdogusa.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/73000562187
